Ear Training Chords

PET contains a comprehesive selection of chords - enough to suit every level of music from beginner to seasoned professional. It is helpful to think of a chord as being comprised of two parts:

1) A basic chord type
2) Decorations

Basic chord types are: Major, minor, dominant, altered dominant, diminished, half diminished, suspended.

Top tips for practising chords with PET

* A good starting point for learning new chords is to select the 'arpeggio' and 'simple voicing' performance options only. This enables you to hear the individual notes in the chord. As your accuracy increases you can introduce the 'chord' and 'pianistic voicing' options.

* Don't feel that you should be able to identify every single chord. Aim to be able to identify the types of chord that you regularly use in your playing.

* Practise identifying basic types only.
