Top tips for practising melodies with PET

* You don't need to be able to read music to practice melodies with PET. Just try to reproduce them on your instrument.

* At first, just use the major and natural minor scales to generate melodies.

* Use a high 'stepwise %' value. This forces the melodies to mainly move to nearby notes. Melodies that contain many large interval jumps can sound disjointed and unmusical.

* Use the 'play tonic chord' and 'play tonic note' options to help you get your musical bearings. This will allow you to hear the melody in context with its key.
