What is eartraining?Eartraining is the process of improving your ability to recognize a musical structure (such as a scale or chord) just by listening to it. There are 4 stages to this: 1. Awareness - you must have knowledge of the various musical structures. 2. Categorization - you must give it a name (eg: "Dorian Scale", "Major"). 3. Memorization - you must remember what it sounds like. 4. Recognition - hearing it should make you think of its name. The old-fashioned way vs the new wayNow, this all may sound complicated but, in actual fact, it's very simple. All you need to do is practice! The old-fashioned way to practice eartraining is to get a friend or a teacher to help with you by playing 'tests' on for you to identify. The problem with this is that it's not always possible to have someone else help. Eartraining software solves this problem by replacing the friend or teacher. PET is always there, never gets tired or bored, and always works at your level - and that's why it's called PERSONAL ear trainer! TIP: Most successful musicians and educators agree that the best way to develop skills is to follow the rule of 'little and often'. You can get amazing results by practicing for only a few minutes daily. How will I progress? That depends on you - different people have their own optimum pace for learning. Because PET is your _personal_ eartrainer you can progress at your own pace. People who have practiced using eartraining software have reported noticable improvements in all areas of their playing, this includes:
